Mike Harkness

Equipment Operator
16 years

Born and raised on a farm and cattle operation in Eastern Scott County, Mike’s life has always revolved around agriculture. Throughout the years, Mike has consistently been on the forefront of researching and adopting new, more progressive technologies. He was one of the first producers in the area to undertake spraying on a broad number of acres in the 1980’s. Thereafter, Mike and his father, Bob, adopted early no-till farming techniques that allowed for innovative new crop rotations in the 1990’s.

Following his father’s retirement, Mike joined forces with VFF in 2010. Mike’s primary responsibilities for VFF are in the area of crop protection and spraying, where he brings a wealth of experience to the table. Mike is also an expert dirt mover and can be found fixing trail roads, wash-outs, and terraces during the winter months. Through his meticulous attention to detail, Mike plays an invaluable role in preserving the long-term value of the land operated by VFF.

WHY VFF:
“I leased my ground out to VFF back in 2010, but I was not ready to quit farming. So I decided to farm with them, becoming a sprayer operator and combine driver.”
