Brian & Paula Vulgamore

Brian began farming full time with his father, Larry, in 1998 after he and his wife, Paula, finished their college education. Brian graduated from Kansas State University (KSU) in 1999 with a B.S. and M.S. in agricultural economics and minor in agronomy. Paula graduated from Bethany College in 1998 with a B.A. in secondary English education and M.A. in English from Fort Hays State University in 2000.

While Brian has always been one to be motivated by a challenge, his insight into the endless opportunities offered by agriculture was part of what brought him back to the family farm. His responsibilities on the farm have changed dramatically over the past ten years, much in the same way as the operation itself.

While serving primarily as general manager of daily operations, he is constantly searching for new ways to improve techniques, increase efficiency and grow the business. That creativity and energy pairs well with his brother, Myles’s personality, making the two a highly effective leadership team. Ventures such as PASS have allowed Brian the opportunity to share his passion for modern technology and precision agriculture with other farmers in the area.

Brian and Paula have three young children - Parker (born in 2000), Paige (born in 2003), and Camden (born in 2006). Although Paula’s family wasn’t directly involved in farming, she grew up in Scott City and spent her summers working at local grain elevators during wheat harvest. Paula has occasionally taught college English courses for Garden City Community College and often assists with harvest by entering and recording tickets for the farm. She also began work in 2012 with Labache Ag as an administrative assistant. When not on the farm, she stays very busy managing their children and supporting Brian in his role, which has allowed him to make the most of his opportunities with the operation.

Outside of farming, Brian’s hobbies include spending time with his kids, traveling, and flying. Brian has harbored a strong passion for flying as long as he can remember and earned his pilot’s license while a student at KSU. Flying provides Brian a fast and enjoyable means to scout fields, an outlet for relieving stress while performing aerobatics, and the ability to take his family on quick, much-needed getaways.
